Located on a steep sloped site on a lush green property in Ballito with stunning views of the surrounding valley. It was key to ensure that all living and bedroom areas take full advantage of this view. The valley unfortunately is West facing so it was important to ensure the glazed areas were adequately shaded while still incorporating North light to keep interior temperatures regulated during Summer and Winter.

The main house consists of a combination of 6M Containers and a central hybrid area for circulation. As you drive down the driveway and park on the side of the container home, a landscaped garden will lead you to the entrance door on the ground storey. This opens up to a living area with guest bathroom and sliding doors leading towards a covered stoep area. A double volume circulation core leads to the kitchen and dining area which mirror the sliding doors on the opposite end.

Upstairs are the main sleeping quarters with a main bedroom with walk-in closet and en-suite. The main bedroom has a private balcony facing the valley views. On the opposite end are two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. One bedroom will enjoy the valley views like the main bedroom, while the other bedroom has a private balcony space.

The guest cottage sits below the main house to avoid blocking any views while creating a private terraced area for renting out or a great Airbnb. The cottage is accessed by the parking level via garden steps. This unit will be built from 2 x 12M containers and a small pop out 3M unit.

The bedroom section of the containers will have two beds with en-suite bathrooms. The one bedroom will have access to a 12M long deck area facing the valley. There will be a central living area with open plan kitchen and dining space. The 3M Unit will house a scullery and laundry space to maintain a separation from the entertainment space and cleaning up area.

The play with pop-out windows, cladding and containers that sit above one another creates a dynamic fascade while the shading devices and pergola's that sit above the glazed areas form part of the fascade as materials and forms become one.
