We can't believe it has been 5 years since we begun this journey of the terrace! We were approached by the owner again to assist with designing some additions to the container house using steel framing and cladding. We were happy to hear the new ideas the client had which would just add more value to this already stunning home.

On the ground floor, the existing porch is going to be enclosed to create an extension of the existing living area. To ensure this space still feels open to the outside, large stacking windows will be installed so that on a sunny day this space can be completely opened up. This will allow renters more space for a dining area set too.

Behind the existing main house staircase where the stunning pool deck area is located, an outdoor shower will be added along with a pool toilet and basin to really create an ideal pool party area. A portion of this space is going to be enclosed with glass doors to create a stunning sunroom space for those windy months in Cape Town.

On the first floor the client would like to extend the guest bedroom wing by converting the current bedroom into a private lounge/seating space for guests and then a small passage will lead to an additional two bedroom areas. The one bedroom will have an en-suite bathroom added which creates the flexibility for the client to later turn this space into an airbnb. Therefore, a stacking door was added to this bedroom space which has access to the upper top garden platform above the existing guest cottage space.

In the main house area, the existing scullery is going to be extended to create a larger laundry space which leads onto the back patio space. This will give the client more space to hang washing indoors during the cold and wet months of winter.

Each of these additions and changes were carefully planned and designed to also create sheltered spaces for the existing outdoor spaces. Windows were placed to still allow adequate light into the interiors. Similar style windows were used (some even taken from spaces being extended) to ensure that the additions form part of the house and as if they had always been there.
